Batch reactor

Case A batch reactor (AISI 316L) with fluctuating temperatures between 40°C and 260°C shows severe corrosion in the top of the reactor (vapor phase). Reactor is 12 years in service.
High concentration of chloride in combination with fluctuating temperatures (batches), are responsible for the three failure mechanisms which enhance each other: Thermal Fatigue, Pitting, Cl-SCC.
